The hospital is seeking permission from the state Health Department to relocate and expand its services to treat the blood cancer, adding 15 exam rooms. The number of exam-room visits for multiple myeloma grew 22 percent from 2014 to 2016 to a total of 7,006 visits, according to Mount Sinai's certificate-of-need application.  To make space for the new unit, Mount Sinai plans to relocate an existing non–Article 28 primary-care practice operated by the faculty practice association to off-campus space. Existing oncologists and new recruits will take over the newly vacated third-floor space. The proposed cost for the project is about $86,000. There is no need for new construction, as the space already complies with Article 28 of the Public Health Law, according to the hospital's application.
