Since the Mount Sinai Health System transitioned from a paper checklist to one in its electronic health record, it has noted a 28 percent decrease in surgical intensive care unit mortality and an 85 percent decrease in central line blood infections. The daily checklist, offered through Epic Foundation System, helps clinicians identify patients at risk for conditions like sepsis. All members of the care team can contribute to the checklist to document information, place common ICU orders or view a summary of the patients chart. The goal of the checklist is to help clinicians assess a patient’s overall recovery and process toward care goals.
