The Mount Sinai Department of Preventive Medicine and the Occupational Medicine Division is offering a two-day conference/ symposium including lectures and hands-on workshops. Mount Sinai’s diverse facility has designed the didactic portion of the conference to alert physicians and clinicians to workplace related threats to their patients’ health that otherwise might not be evident to them.
The lectures and workshops include general management and analysis of work-related injuries and casualties, and the diagnosis and treatment of heavy metal exposure, upper respiratory diseases, musculoskeletal injuries (including repetitive motion injuries) and challenges to mental health including sources of acute work-related stress.
Participation will enable physicians to improve their diagnostic protocols and facilities and fine-tune their interactions with patients. Physicians will leave the conference with an action plan and clinical tools including information packets, standardized questionnaires, forms, protocols and additional materials. Finally, they will have interaction with the faculty and professionals and nonprofessionals from business, labor, patients as well as physicians actively treating compensable (workers compensation) injuries.
At the conclusion of this CME activity, the participant should be able to:
- Describe recent innovations in occupational health diagnosis and treatment when they should be appropriately utilized.
- Can propose to management a program and arrange to organize anti-stress programs in collaboration with workplace leaders.
- Explain to patients and check for understanding about the reasons for and how to appropriately identify and report unhealthy or dangerous workplace conditions.
- Can determine when screening for occupational disease is necessary in a particular workplace.
