Sujana Chandrasekhar, MD is a leading otologist and neurotologist (ear and skull base surgeon) with offices in midtown Manhattan and Wayne, NJ. She is Clinical Associate Professor of Otolaryngology, and Co-Director of the Newborn Hearing Screening Program at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. Her clinical interests include all aspects of ear, hearing and balance disorders-- including otosclerosis, acoustic neuroma, cochlear and baha implants, cholesteatoma, mastoidectomy, sudden hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, Meniere's disease and facial paralysis.

She was elected by the 12000 member otolaryngologists to be President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 2016. She is currently Secretary-Treasurer of the American Otological Society. She is a leader in Otolaryngology on Social Media as well. 

Dr. Chandrasekhar is acknolwedged as one of the world authorities on Sudden Sensorineural Hearling Loss (SSNHL), having authored the most accessed article in the Journal of Otology and Neurology on this subject. She has also done both animal and clinical research on SSNHL and has taught this subject at courses and at large seminars at annual meetings of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Chandrasekhar has also spearheaded ground-breaking research on Treatment of Otitis Media (ear infections) with an Intranasal Spray of Surfactant. She has been recognized for this work by the most prestigious organization in her field, the American Laryngological, Otological and Rhinological Society ('the Triologic Society'), with a Research Award for her thesis published in 2003. She has also been inducted into the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Neurotology Society, the New York Otological Society, the Triologic Society, the American Otological Society, and the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Chandrasekhar did her residency and chief residency at New York University Medical Center and went on to complete her fellowship in clinical Otology and Neurotology at the presitigious House Ear Clinic and Institute in Los Angeles, CA. She has mentored and taught several medical students, researchers and residents in the course of her career, and continues to do so.

Humanitarian causes and very important to Dr.Chandrasekhar. She was Medical Director of the Hear Here Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to research, treatment and education for ear diseases, primarily SSNHL, founded by a grateful patient whose hearing Dr. Chandrasekhar was able to restore. That foundation has been folded into the Deafness Research Foundation. She is an active physician participant in Mayflower Medical Outreach, a group based in Oklahoma City, OK. As part of that group, she has traveled to Nicaragua to perform otolaryngology clinical and surgical care on indigent people there and teach local physicians to improve their skills. Dr. Chandrasekhar was recognized in over 150 newspapers around the U.S. and in local and international television for her efforts in bringing a deaf 2 year old to the U.S. from Romania for cochlear implant surgery. She donated her services and persuaded the implant company, the hospital and other doctors to do the same. The child is now in school, speaking, singing, and enjoying her hearing.
