About Me
Sotirios Kassapidis, MD, is Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. After receiving his medical degree from St. George’s University in Grenada, he completed a residency in internal medicine at SUNY, Health Science Center and was selected chief resident by his program. He went on to complete a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at SUNY, Health Science Center.
For more than 17 years, Dr. Kassapidis has been caring for patients in the Queens community. He focuses his hospital-based clinical interests on the management of critically ill patients in the intensive care units. He treats acute life-threatening respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic, renal and infectious conditions. In his office he cares for patients with a range of pulmonary conditions including asthma, COPD, chronic cough, occupational respiratory problems, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer and sleep disorders. He also practices general internal medicine.
Dr. Kassapidis has been awarded the Castle Connolly Top Doctors: New York Metro Area Award for 2012 -2013. This recognition identifies the top physicians in the New York City area who possess a high level of medical skill and expertise based on a review of peer nominations. In addition, in 2002, he was awarded the coveted Physician of the Year by Mount Sinai Queens where he has also served on the Medical Board. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and is a member of the Critical Care Society of America. In addition, he has authored book chapters and a paper in the fieldof pulmonary medicine.
Dr. Kassapidis is from a family of physicians, including his father, uncle, and two cousins. Having been born and raised in Astoria, Dr. Kassapidis has close ties to the Queens community
