Seth Blacksburg

Biography

Seth Blacksburg M.D., M.B.A., is a board certified radiation oncologist with specialized training in the treatment of Genitourinary, Gastrointestinal, and Central Nervous System tumors with innovative radiation techniques including Brachytherapy, Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).  The goals of these therapies are to maximally treat and cure cancer while minimizing radiation side effects to adjacent tissues.  

Dr. Blacksburg completed his medical training at the Duke University School of Medicine, where he also received a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Health Sector Management.  He completed his medical internship at New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency in radiation oncology at the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine.  Dr. Blacksburg served as chief resident for two years during this time.  A pioneer in using medical informatics to enhance quality treatment in radiation oncology, he was selected to serve as a Clinical Quality Fellow by the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYH) and the United Hospital Fund (UHF). 

Dr. Blacksburg’s research interests include exploring the role of novel radiation therapeutic modalities to improve cancer cure rates and minimize side effects in patients with prostate cancer, brain and spinal cancers, and hepatobiliary malignancy.  To that end, he has expertise in the use of brachytherapy, image guided radiation, and stereotactic therapy for treating patients.  He is an innovator in the field of medical informatics and continues to refine novel approaches to enhance patient safety.  Dr. Blacksburg has published his experience with these treatments.  

Dr. Blacksburg is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the American Medical Association.
