About Me

Dr. Maite La Vega-Talbott received her medical degree from the Universidad Del Zulia, Venezuela, she did her Pediatric Neurology training at New York Presbyterian - Weill Cornell Medical Center, and completed her fellowship training in Clinical Neurophysiology at Miami Children’s Hospital (Nicklaus Children’s Hospital). During her Clinical Neurophysiology training she acquired expertise in the treatment of drug resistant epilepsy, with a focus on surgically remediable epilepsy syndromes in infants, children and adolescents. Dr. La Vega-Talbott is part of a very strong and innovative program in epilepsy surgery, and in keeping up with the latest advances in the field. She provides screening and pre-surgical epilepsy evaluation for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy who could potentially be candidates for different surgical modalities, including surgical resection, laser ablation of epileptic foci, Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS), and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).

Dr. La Vega-Talbott serve as the Interim Director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Kravis Children’s Hospital and the Director of the Pediatric Neurostimulation Outpatient Services.Dr. La Vega has a large referral base of Spanish speaking patients from different parts of New York. She also has worked in reaching out to increase epilepsy awareness in the Hispanic community through appearances on Univision, the Spanish language television network.
