Laura Bevilacqua, MD, PhD

About Me

Dr. Bevilacqua is a board-certified psychiatrist with experience in providing care to adult patients from all walks of life and cultures. Dr. Bevilacqua graduated Medical School at the University of Pisa, Italy, where she also obtained a PhD in the neurobiology of affective disorders. She moved to the US to conduct research on functional genomics at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She then completed a residency in Adult Psychiatry at New York University (NYU) as well as a training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. At Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine she worked in multiple roles. She conducted research on mood and anxiety disorders at the Depression and Anxiety Center, supervised psychiatry residents and medical students, provided care to a diverse adult population at the Mount Sinai  psychiatric outpatient clinic and to health care workers at the Center for Stress Resilience and Personal Growth during the Covid-19 pandemic. She is the author of several peer-reviewed publications and has presented her research at national and international conferences. She currently is on the voluntary faculty and continues to educate residents and medical students and to conduct research on stress-related disorders. Dr. Bevilacqua has a private practice located in Brooklyn, NY. She continues to be in network with the Mount Sinai UMR insurance. She has experience in treating mood and anxiety disorders and mental health issues affecting in particular in women, students, young professionals and health care workers.
