Biography
- Sleep is a basic necessity of life. Getting enough and good quality sleep helps us maintain good health and allows us to perform at our best during the day. 74% of adults in the United States experience a sleeping problem for a few nights a week or more, according to the National Sleep Foundation's Sleep in America poll. My professional interest is on the impact of breathing disorders during sleep on the person's overall health and personal productivity. Sleep related breathing disorders include: primary snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome, and sleep apnea. The consequences of these conditions are excessive daytime sleepiness and an increased risk for cardiovascular events (e.g., heart attacks, strokes, hypertension, etc.). I am interested in finding alternative treatment modalities for these conditions. Other clinical interests of mine include obesity hypoventilation syndrome, pre-operative evaluation in patients with sleep disorders, excessive daytime sleepiness, and jet lag.
