Biography

    Emma Guttman, MD, PhD is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. She is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology & Immunology and Director of Occupational/Contact Dermatitis, Director of the Laboratory of Inflammatory Skin Diseases in the Department of Dermatology.

    She earned her M.D. degree from Sackler School of Medicine at the Tel-Aviv University, and a Ph.D. degree from the Bar-Ilan University Ramat-Gan, Israel. Dr. Guttman completed her first dermatology residency at the Dermatology Department at the Rambam Medical Center/Technion Institute in Haifa. After obtaining her Israeli Board certification in dermatology (2005), Dr. Guttman moved to the U.S. to pursue a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at The Rockefeller University in the Laboratory for Investigative Dermatology. Upon completion of her fellowship, she became board-certified by the American Board of dermatology after obtaining her second dermatology residency training at the Weill-Cornell Medical College, in NY. Dr. Guttman’s major clinical focus is in contact/occupational dermatitis and inflammatory skin diseases. Presently, Dr. Guttman is developing a highly specialized occupational/contact dermatitis clinic with the latest developments in patch testing to detect allergy-related skin eczema. She has done groundbreaking research in atopic dermatitis and published extensively on inflammatory skin diseases. She is the recipient of the prestigious Young Investigator Award (2011) from the American Academy of Dermatology, the 2011 recipient of the Dermatology Foundation’s Physician-Scientist Career Development Award, and the Everett C. Fox Award for best clinical research at the Residents & Fellows Symposium of the American academy of dermatology.

Research

Inflammatory Skin Diseases

Dr. Guttman’s groundbreaking research focuses on atopic dermatitis/eczema and contact dermatitis. Her research has important implications in advancing the current molecular knowledge on atopic dermatitis/eczema and developing new therapeutics.

She is the recipient of the prestigious Young Investigator Award (2011) from the of Dermatology, the 2011 recipient of the Dermatology Foundation’s Physician-Scientist Career Development Award, and the recipient of the Fisher award of the American Contact Dermatitis Society 2011.
