Edwardine M Mohanraj, MD

Dr. Mirna Mohanraj is the Program Director for the Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West Hospitals and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Mohanraj completed her undergraduate education at The Johns Hopkins University and medical education at The University of Connecticut. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Chicago Hospitals, followed by a Chief Medical Residency at The John H. Stroeger Hospital of Cook County and Clinical Instructor at Rush Medical College in Chicago. Dr. Mohanraj went on to complete her Pulmonary & Critical Care Fellowship training at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and was recruited to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West in 2010.

Dr. Mohanraj is passionate about medical education and has spearheaded innovations in medical education throughout her tenure at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West first as Associate Program Director, and now as Program Director. She implemented a novel ‘flipped classroom’ model for the fellows’ CORE curriculum series, created a longitudinal Quality Improvement Curriculum (including the unique Fellows’ Group QI Project) and instituted a Night Intensivist Experience for the fellows. Building on the Center for Advanced Medical Simulation resources, Dr. Mohanraj developed fellow-level simulation cases and the first ‘Mini-Simulation Fellowship’ that can be completed during a 3-year fellowship program. She is an ardent advocate for fellow well-being and co-designed the Humanism in Pulmonary & Care Medicine Program, a distinctive fellow-driven program that has been nominated for a national ACGME award.

Dr. Mohanraj educates fellows and residents through a variety of clinical activities including inpatient pulmonary, critical care medicine, Chest Clinic and a faculty practice. She has received teaching awards and leads resident- and fellow-level initiatives to promote trainee interest and advancement in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Additional experiences include direction of the Procedure Service, clinical documentation education and active membership no the MSSLW Ethics Committee. She is board certified in Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine.
