About Me

Dr. Dean graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, earned her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and recently completed a Master’s in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety Management from Thomas Jefferson University.  During residency, she served as chief resident at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine Integrated Residency in Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center & Elmhurst Hospital Center.

Dr. Dean joined Elmhurst Hospital Center after residency as an Attending in the Emergency Department (ED), then Mount Sinai Queens as Assistant Director of the ED where she served as Director of Quality Assurance and Process Improvement for the ED and led various committees aimed at quality and process improvements throughout the hospital.  She was the hospital’s Physician Lead for the implementation of the Stop Sepsis Initiative, which resulted in improved patient outcomes, including decreased sepsis mortality.

In 2014, Dr. Dean joined Mount Sinai Brooklyn as Medical Director of the ED.  During her tenure, she has spearheaded many departmental initiatives, including implementation of EPIC as the new electronic medical records platform, implementation of a split flow process promoting enhanced throughput from arrival to evaluation for ED patients, as well as leading the ED through Ebola, Superstorm Sandy, and COVID-19.

Dr. Dean is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, a member of the Mount Sinai Health System Strategic Sepsis Committee, serves as Co-Chair of the Quality, Safety & Patient Experience Committee for the Emergency Medicine Service Line and serves on a host of other committees.

Recent community based activities include Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy discussions on Facebook Live, with local community organizations and Heart health discussions via Zoom for women to promote awareness and education regarding life threatening illnesses and the importance of empowering individuals to make optimal decisions for themselves and their families.

Dr. Dean is committed to mentoring young students through lectures and activities, including current mentoring through the Diversity and Inclusion Committee through the EM Service Line, mentoring through the Queens Gateway to Health Sciences School, the Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria and Mentoring in Medicine programs.  She has taught CPR classes, given geriatric health lectures, and participated in multiple health fairs for local churches, nursing homes and other community organizations.

Dr. Dean and her family continue to actively supported Brooklyn Community Services, a nonprofit organization that supports Brooklyn children, families and adults through educational, social and vocational activities that promote individual sustainability and health.
