I am a board certified general surgeon specializing in the management of patients with malignant and benign breast disease. I completed my surgery training at the former Saint Vincent's Hospital (SVH) in Manhattan in 1978 and, following a fellowship in surgical nutrition and metabolism, returned to SVH where I practiced until the closure of that institution in April of 2010. During my tenure there I held many different leadership positions while maintaining a busy surgical practice.
Some of the positions of which I remain most proud include: President of the Medical Staff, member or the Board of Trustees, and chairman of the quality assurance committee for 18 years. I was chairman of surgery and program director of the surgical residency training program at the time of the closure and facilitated the transfer of 50 surgical residents to other porgrams in order to complete their training. Following the closure of the organization, I was fortunate to be able to relocate to Beth Israel Medical Center where I became a member of the Appel-Venet Comprehensive Breast Service. I have since been actively involved in caring for patients with breast disease and engaged in surgical education of residents and fellows.
I have been honored to assume additional nonclinical responsibilities as well, including vice-chariman for quality in the Department of Surgery, the "Surgeon Champion" for the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Assurance Program (NSQIP) and the "Cancer Liaison Physician" for the ACS-sponsored Commmission on Cancer. I continue to enjoy the balance of clinical and non-clinical responsibilities that have characterized my entire career.

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device and biotechnology companies to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their relationships with such companies.
Dr.Mills did not report having any of the following types of financial relationships with industry during 2016 and/or 2017: consulting, scientific advisory board, industry-sponsored lectures, service on Board of Directors, participation on industry-sponsored committees, equity ownership valued at greater than 5% of a publicly traded company or any value in a privately held company. Please note that this information may differ from information posted on corporate sites due to timing or classification differences.
Mount Sinai's faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
Physicians who provide services at hospitals and facilities in the Mount Sinai Health System might not participate in the same health plans as those Mount Sinai hospitals and facilities (even if the physicians are employed or contracted by those hospitals or facilities).
