About Me

Dr. Armin Tehrany treats all types of orthopedic conditions, including those of the upper extremity, lower extremity, and spine. He specializes in minimally invasive treatment of the shoulder and knee, including rotator cuff repair and dislocation repair in the shoulder, as well as meniscus and ligament reconstruction in the knee. He believes that treatment of various conditions in the body should include both traditional allopathic and non-allopathic methods, ranging from conservative management to surgical intervention.

Dr. Tehrany has published and presented his research at numerous local, national, and international meetings on topics involving the shoulder, hip, and spine. He is a clinical instructor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he teaches medical students, orthopedic residents, and the shoulder fellow. He is a member of many organizations, including the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He serves on the Board of Directors for the New York State Society of Orthopedic Surgeons, as well as the Physicians Advisory Board for the New York County Medical Society. His current interests involve the development of minimally invasive techniques in the management of shoulder and cartilage disorders. His orthopedic research interests began at the Hospital for Special Surgery where he first published work on cartilage metabolism in 1993. He currently serves as a journal peer reviewer for Arthroscopy: the Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery.

A native of New York City, Dr. Tehrany graduated from Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School in Brooklyn where he currently serves on the Board of Governors. He completed his undergraduate training thorough the Brooklyn College 7-year BA/MD program and received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. During that period, he became interested in minimally-invasive surgical techniques in the shoulder. He therefore went on to complete a one-year fellowship in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder with one of the field's noted pioneers, Dr. Stephen Burkhart, through Baylor College of Medicine in Texas.
