About Me

Aaron M. Fischman, MD FSIR FCIRSE FSVM, is Professor of Diagnostic, Molecular and Interventional Radiology, Urology and Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Dartmouth College, he completed medical school at the State University of NY (SUNY) Upstate Medical Center in 2004. After finishing residency in Diagnostic Radiology at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York where he also served as Chief Resident, he then went on to complete a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.   He subsequently joined the division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology in 2010 and currently serves as the Program Director for the newly created IR residency training program for the entire Mount Sinai Health System.

Dr. Fischman has a broad and active interest in minimally invasive treatments for venous disease including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), advanced IVC filter removal techniques, superficial varicose veins and portal venous hypertension including therapies such as Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) and Balloon Occlusion Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration of Gastric Varices (BRTO). He also focuses on minimally invasive treatments for primary and metastastic liver and kidney cancer including Yttrium-90 radioembolization, chemoembolization and thermal ablative therapies including state of the art microwave and cryoablation technologies.

At Mount Sinai, Dr. Fischman has pioneered the transradial (TR) technique for access to the arterial system from the wrist during oncologic liver interventions, uterine embolization for fibroids, and prostate embolization for men suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). He trains physicians from around the world on this minimally invasive technique which allows for improved patient comfort, immediate ambulation, and faster discharge to home.

Dr. Fischman has been involved with and completed numerous multi-center clinical trials including the BEAT Obesity Trial, a new minimally invasive procedure developed to help people lose weight without surgery and the BEST Trial comparing minimally invasive embolization to traditional TURP for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Dr. Fischman has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbooks and actively lectures around the world about new and innovative techniques for minimally invasive interventions.  He is an active fellow in both the Society of Interventional Radiology and Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society,  Radiologic Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and the American College of Phlebology.  He is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Radiology and Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
