Psychiatric Service Information for Referring Physicians
The Mount Sinai Department of Psychiatry is home to a comprehensive range of specialized service areas that provide each patient with the most advanced mental health care. Our clinical offerings—which include inpatient, outpatient, transitional (e.g., day treatment), and emergency services—provide a multidisciplinary approach to evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. Delivered by a highly-skilled team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, the care we provide is enhanced by our commitment to research.
Clinical Service Areas
The following services provide comprehensive care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric inpatients and outpatients.
- Specialized Treatment Centers: Our centers and programs—including the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program (MAP) and the Tics, Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (DTOR) program—combine clinical service and research into a comprehensive model of care.
- Inpatient Services: The Inpatient Psychiatric Service comprises five units—including General Adult, Geriatrics, Child and Adolescent, and Co-Occurring Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Disorders—to provide multidisciplinary care for patients with a range of mental illnesses.
- Emergency Services: Our dedicated Psychiatric Emergency Room provides immediate evaluation and stabilization for patients in crisis, who are either admitted to one of our inpatient psychiatry units or released with specific care plan arrangements.
Enhancing Care with Research
Our treatments are augmented by the robust research activities of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in areas that include psychotropic medications, psychotherapy techniques, and device-based treatments (including Deep Brain Stimulation). Such research gives patients access to emerging therapies through Mount Sinai and multi-national clinical trial enrollments.
In partnership with our referring physicians, the Department of Psychiatry strives to combine the newest science with clinical skill in order to provide the most seamless and successful treatments for each patient entrusted to our care.
