About the Pediatric Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program

Mood and anxiety disorders present distinct challenges in children and adolescents. That’s why Mount Sinai has brought a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and neuropsychologists together in one pediatric program that merges extensive clinical experience and the newest research into a comprehensive approach to treating these difficult conditions. Under the leadership of Vilma Gabbay, MD, MS, our specialists offer each patient the state-of-the-art therapies, support, and tools they need to effectively manage their disorder and achieve their greatest potential.

Providing Integrated Treatments

Patients turn to our Program at every stage of illness—from those exhibiting the early symptoms of a problem to those who have developed a challenging, treatment-resistant case. Our team employs the expertise of each member to provide seamlessly integrated care that includes neuropsychiatric testing, pharmacotherapy, and psychosocial interventions (such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

We also provide consultations for other physicians and work with our patients’ school officials, when necessary, to deliver the most comprehensive services possible.

Advancing Care with Research

Our Program’s patients have access to novel therapies in the form of clinical trial enrollments. Our research activities involve an array of techniques, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), MR spectroscopy, and immunological and genetic assays to explore areas such as the neurological and immunological mechanisms that contribute to the development and maintenance of pediatric mood disorders.

By combining these research advances with our clinical care, the Pediatric Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program strives to help patients establish stronger interpersonal connections, improve academic performance, and enjoy better function in every aspect of life.
