Benefits Counseling

Living with illness affects all aspects of a person's life, including the ability to work and earn a living. Navigating public benefits and compensation systems for work-related health problems can be a stressful experience, but you don't have to go through it alone. Members of the World Trade Center Health Program have access to the services of Mount Sinai's Occupational Health social work team, which provides free and confidential benefits counseling. We can provide information and referrals to help you with:

  • Emergency assistance for utilities, housing and food
  • Health insurance coverage and access to primary medical care
  • Housing court advocacy
  • Immigration and citizenship status
  • Line of Duty Injury (LODI) benefits
  • Mental health services
  • September 11th Victims Compensation Fund (VCF)
  • Social Security disability benefits
  • Vocational rehabilitation and retraining
  • Workers' Compensation
  • World Trade Center disability pension for public sector workers
