How to Prepare for a Test
Pulmonary function tests help to monitor and diagnosis many forms of lung disease. Preparation for pulmonary function tests is fairly simple and requires minimal effort.
Here are some ways to prepare for your test:
- It is best to wear comfortable clothing when you come to the laboratory particularly if you are scheduled for an exercise study
- Breathing tests should not be performed on a full stomach
- If you are a smoker, you should not smoke on the day of the test
- It is best not to exercise right before you come for testing
There are specific preparation instructions for routine lung function testing, Methacholine challenge, and Cardiopulmonary Exercise tests (see patient testing instructions). For more information, read our frequently asked questions or call 212-241-5819.
