Do you have COPD?
If you or a loved one have been suffering with shortness of breath and has a risk factor for COPD, such as cigarette exposure, simple non-invasive testing can be performed to determine whether this is your problem.
These tests may include:
- Chest x-ray —x-rays of the chest that may detect signs of lung infection
- CT scan —a type of x-ray that uses a computer to make pictures of structures inside the chest
- Blood tests—to assess the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood
- Lung function tests
Your personal physician can order this test at Mount Sinai Hospital or if needed can refer you to one of our COPD pulmonary specialists for consultation. If your shortness of breath is not due to COPD, our specialists can find out why it is present and can suggest other forms of treatment.
