Mount Sinai's kidney disease program ranks among the best in the nation, according to the 2011-2012 U.S. News & World Report "America's Best Hospitals" issue. The Mount Sinai program ranks 25th out of nearly 5,000 hospitals evaluated by U.S. News.
The Mount Sinai Medical Center has been an international leader in the treatment of kidney disease since performing the first hemodialysis in the United States in the 1950s. Mount Sinai established New York State's first dialysis center in 1957 and operates the largest home dialysis program in New York City. Our state-of-the-art peritoneal dialysis unit is located in Mount Sinai's Center for Advanced Medicine on New York's Upper East Side.

Mount Sinai takes a leadership role in the prevention of kidney disease through physician and patient education. According to the National Kidney Foundation, an estimated 26 million adults in the United States suffer from chronic kidney disease — a condition associated with high rates of cardiovascular disorders.
Mount Sinai physicians go to community centers, health fairs, and other venues to inform community-based physicians and patients about kidney disease and conduct free screenings for early detection.
