Catheter Ablation Therapy: Finding and Fixing Arrhythmias
Mount Sinai Heart is at the forefront of treatments to correct problematic heart rhythms, from medications to devices. We offer a promising new procedure called catheter ablation. With just a few precise manipulations, our electrophysiologists locate and destroy the tissue that causes electrical misfires, repairing abnormal rhythms permanently.
"Before catheter ablation, all arrhythmias were treated with medications," says Davendra Mehta, MD, PhD, Professor of Cardiology. "However there are new technologies now that pinpoint where the arrhythmia is coming from. We cauterize the troublesome cells, essentially curing the arrhythmia."
Mount Sinai Heart is the only medical center in New York City to use the Sensei Robotic System to treat both simple and complex rhythm problems. Typically, catheter ablation is a manual procedure. This requires physicians to perform a series of delicate and complex manipulations at one end of a catheter. These new robotics substantially increase the procedures' success rates.
