Cheek and Chin Implants

Chin and Cheek Implants (Genioplasty and Malarplasty)

Often overlooked, the contours of the jaw line, chin, and cheekbones are equally important factors in the overall symmetry of the face as our nose and eyes. For patients concerned about a receding chin, irregular jaw line or flat cheek bones, Cheek and Chin implants are an effective solution. At Mount Sinai, our expert Facial Plastic Surgeons use state of the art techniques and implants to address patients’ concerns in these areas and individualize outcomes. The goal is to ensure a long lasting, natural-looking and rejuvenated appearance. Adjunctive procedures may be employed in addition to Neck Lift surgery in order to achieve an optimal outcome including face lifting, mid face lifting, eye lifting/blepharoplasty, brow lifting, and rhinoplasty.

At Mount Sinai, cheek and chin implantation is usually done on an outpatient basis at our private, Ambulatory Surgery Center. Cheek and chin implantation can be performed under local anesthesia, general anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. Prior to surgery patients are given instructions regarding medications and how to prepare for their recovery. After surgery, patients are usually given a short course of antibiotics and mild pain medication, as some mild discomfort may persist for the first few days. Patients should expect to return to work or social activities within one to two weeks after surgery. We do ask that patients avoid strenuous activities for two weeks after surgery.

Cost is always concern; insurance may cover surgery performed to improve breathing but does not generally cover surgery or treatment that is done purely for cosmetic reasons. We provide patients with expected costs prior to any intervention.
