Open to nurses nationally, PSON’s Center for Continuing Education offers a full selection of courses onsite and online. Nurses can take courses to gain knowledge in specialized areas and help them to advance their careers, as well as to meet re-licensure and certification needs. The Center facilitates lifelong learning and offers nurses the latest in evidence-based practice to foster growth and development.

This program is designed to give nurses and nurse practitioners a better understanding of the pharmacology, indications, contraindications, benefits/risks, pertinent administration considerations, and clinical trials data of a broad spectrum of new agents and those that have been granted a new indication. The Nursing Informatics program examines the history of healthcare informatics, basic concepts, current issues, as well as health information management systems. Students will apply informatics concepts to a current clinical practice setting and will suggest methods for using technology to improve patient safety and work place effectiveness.

The Infection Control and Barrier Precautions training course provides the necessary information and documentation to fulfill the licensure/credentialing requirements mandated by the New York State Education Department and the Department of Health. Chapter 786 of the Laws of 1992 amended the Education and Public Health Laws establishing a requirement that certain healthcare professionals licensed in NY State must receive approved training in infection control and barrier precautions by July 1, 1994; and every four years thereafter. Infection Control training is to prevent the transmission of Human Immuno-deficiency Virus ( HIV) and the Hepatitis B (HBV) in the course of professional practice.

A 10-week course based on the standards of the AORN’s Peri-operative Nursing 101 Program.
Two tracts to choose from: Operating room, or Ambulatory Surgery.
The course includes 80 hours classroom lectures, simulation lab practice and 50 hours clinical.
AORN Certificate (41.7 contact hours for OR, or 43.3 hours for Ambulatory tract)
Certificate of Attendance will be awarded for simulation and clinical sessions upon completion of the course.
