Inpatient Pharmacy Department
The Inpatient Pharmacy Department dispenses and monitors the use of narcotics with computerized Pyxis® systems. The Inpatient Pharmacy also dispenses medication to the Emergency, Rehabilitation, and Psychiatry Departments.
The Inpatient Pharmacy's OR/PACU service offers two OR pharmacy statellites. The department also has an extemporaneous compounding service that prepares specialized drug dosage forms.
This area is open 24 hours a day, and offers off-hours pharmacy services to the entire institution.
This division has a number of different functions, with the primary patient-specific responsibilities including the manufacture of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) solutions, using an automated compounder, oncology products, and a variety of parenteral preparations.
This division also prepares premixed antibiotics with patient-specific labeling. In addition, pharmacists in this unit compound a variety of standard, non-sterile oral and topical preparations. Finally, through the use of automated equipment, the Sterile/Non-sterile Manufacturing-Compounding Area prepares unit dose packages of medications that are purchased in bulk form.
