History

The Mount Sinai Health System’s Department of Social Work Services has been a model for service, education, and research from its formal beginnings in 1906. With the assistance of a remarkable Auxiliary Board, innovative administrators, and socially-oriented physicians, the Department has developed from a single worker to over 200 social workers whose contributions have been recognized on local, national, and international levels. After having just celebrated its centennial, the Department of Social Work Services at Mount Sinai proudly reflects on its history at the forefront of the profession.
