Mount Sinai’s Clinical Specialties and
Model of Nursing Care
One of the Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Nursing’s most successful innovations has been its approach to caring for patients with similar needs. We organize our care around what we call Clinical Specialty Services. These are services that encompass a wide variety of disciplines, ranging from cardiovascular/cardiothoracic services to women’s and children’s services (see full list below). Our focus is on Relationship-Centered Care, care that revolves around the patient, within a Professional Practice Model. Through this model of care, each patient is assured a dedicated team of professionals built around a primary registered nurse and an attending physician. Support services are always just steps away from the point of care.
For patients and their families, this approach translates into nursing care that is individualized, continuous and accessible. For our nurses, it means an opportunity to practice professional nursing the way you've always wanted to—in an environment that combines autonomous, compassionate caregiving with state-of-the-art technology and interdisciplinary teamwork. Not only are better patient outcomes strongly linked to this care delivery model, but patient and employee satisfaction are, too.
