Description of the Program: The Department of Preventive Medicine at the Ichan School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is currently accepting applications for its Short-term Research Training Program for Minority Students. The goal of this program is to train minority students in the area of public health with a focus in the areas of environmental health, epidemiology, cardiovascular health, pulmonary health and occupational health. Selected students will be paired with a faculty mentor and will complete a research project in one of the fields listed above. Students are accepted and placed throughout the year but are required to commit to a 10 to 12 week internship. A stipend of maximum $6,887/per student is provided based on the time completed in the program. The program is funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute from the National Institute of Health.
Eligibility of Applicants:
Applicants must be:
* U.S. Citizens or permanent residents.
* Students currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master's degree program.
* Minority status (underrepresented in the sciences - African-American, Latino, Native American, Alaska Native, Pacific Islanders).
* Applicants must be available for a full-time, 3-month-long internship in New York City. Willing to commit a minimum of 10 full weeks to the program. However, it's recommended to complete a 12 weeks program.
