A postdoctoral position is available in the Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism Institute in Dr. Vasavada's lab. Her laboratory has had a long-standing interest in diabetes. Specfically, they are interested in the regulation of pancreatic beta cell growth, survival, function, and regeneration in normal beta cell physiology and in the pathophysiological settings of diabetes and islet transplantation. The research position will involve the use of transgenic and knockout mice, cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
Your responsibilities will include the design, execution and supervision of research projects involved in examining the role of growth factors in enhancing the growth, survival and function of pancreatic beta cells, and understanding the molecular and immunological pathways mediating these effects. You will be expected to take the lead role in some of these projects, and to publish at least one or two manuscripts as first author. You are also encouraged to seek independent funding for the projects. Your responsibilities also include the training and supervision of other laboratory members, including fellows, post docs, and research technicians, as needed. You will be expected to present your projects and data at lab meetings, as well as national and international meetings.
