This three-year fellowship training program combines classroom education that leads to an MPH degree, with mentored research experience, and clinical experience in environmental pediatrics. Trainee will receive didactic training in epidemiology, biostatistics, and environmental medicine, study design and research methodology. Fellows will take a course on grant writing, will complete their mentored research project, write papers, an MPH thesis and a grant application based on this research, and begin transition to academic independence. Fellows will see patients in the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit as well. Open to physicians who have completed two to three years of pediatric residency training and also to research scientists in related disciplines who have completed doctoral training. Fellows will be selected on the basis of their interest in pediatric environmental health, academic and clinical performance during residency or research training, research potential, and potential for future academic leadership.
Candidates must be clinically trained pediatricians and doctorally trained scientists with research training in a clinical context that will enable them to become future academic leaders in the emerging but underserved field of environmental pediatrics.
