Radiation Safety Monitor I

Under general supervision of Physicist, administers radiation therapy treatments according to the Radiation Oncologists's prescription under minimal supervision. Performs simulations and creates immobilization devices according to the guidelines set by the physicians, and accurately places marks (tattoos) on the patients in order to reproduce the treatment set-up daily; keeps accurate daily records of treatments administered in order to facilitate statistics; teaches radiation therapist students technical procedures and evaluates at the end of their rotation; assists in the supervision of the staff radiation therapists and block cutters; demonstrates strong understanding of practical psychology, the physiology of cancer and the emotional and physical responses of patients undergoing treatment. May act as Chief Radiation Therapist.
-Job requires a minimum level of knowledge ordinarily acquired through completion of an AMA approved 2-year hospital based certificate program or 2-year associate degree program, or 4 year baccalaureate degree program in Radiation Therapy.
-ARRT registered or eligible for registration in Radiation Therapy with requirement to become registered in 8 months or 2 exam sitting. NYS permanent or temporary license.
-Very good interpersonal skills required for effective job performance: good written and verbal communication skills mandatory; incumbent required to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of field. Must interact effectively with hospital clinicians/management staff/external agencies/line technical staff.
-Minimum 3 years experience with brachytherapy and radio-surgery
