Performance Improvement Coordinator
Full/Part Time: Full Time

Collaborates with the obstetrical medical and nursing leadership at The Mount Sinai Hospital to promote a culture of patient safety and adherence to national clinical standards utilizing the principles and practice of the science of patient safety. Serves as a visible and recognized advocate for patient safety in perinatal clinical areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as a patient safety advocate and clinical role model in Obstetrics.
Keeps abreast of changing national standards of clinical practice and safety science literature. Disseminates pertinent safety and specialty related information.
Presents patient and staff concerns to appropriate clinical forums.
Participates in and contributes to clinical review activities.
Coordinates Ob QA and PI committee meetings and maintains minutes and provides follow-up.
Assists and supports the healthcare team with disclosure when adverse event or untoward outcome occurs and coordinates debriefing sessions.
Participates in patient safety or administrative walk rounds.
Monitors clinical outcomes.
Encourages staff to recognize and report adverse events and near misses.
Contributes to EFM strip reviews.
Performs collaborative reviews of adverse occurrences and near misses. Incorporates such into educational efforts.
Maintains a database of records reviewed, issues identified and plans of correction.
Assesses the documentation of charts reviewed and provides timely feedback to clinicians.
Provides data as requested by internal and external bodies
Facilitates interdisciplinary communication and education.
Fosters and promotes participation by all members of the team in education programs and drills.
Facilitates clinical drills for high risk situation (e.g. shoulder dystocia, and obstetrical hemorrhage).
Participates in ongoing education of all disciplines, including OB clerkship and resident didactics.
Promotes adoption of standardized communication tool and elements of crew resource management across disciplines.
Implements safety and loss prevention initiatives as directed by the Mount Sinai Hospital Obstetrical leadership.

Work Hours: Flexible may include nights and weekends

Directly to Local MCH Nursing Director/designee and Director of Obstetrics
Chair of Quality/designee in Dept of OB/GYN
"NYS licensed RN with advanced degree or Physician Assistant (PA-C)"
Incremental experience in Obstetrical care.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with adult learning.
Previous research, patient safety, simulation or team training experience.
Certification in EFM.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
