PER DIEM SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
Full/Part Time: Per Diem

Under administrative supervision of the Regional Director of Hearing and Speech service and direct professional supervision of the Assistant Chief Speech Pathologist, provides coverage for staff Speech Pathologists on an as needed basis. Performs and interprets speech, language, voice and dysphagia diagnostic testing in accordance with established protocols. Counsels patients and families as to test results; interacts with referring physicians and prepares diagnostic reports. Provides speech, language, voice and dysphagia therapies to relevant patients. Completes all appropriate medical documentation. Participates in training or in-service education programs.
-Performs diagnostic speech, language, voice and dysphagia evaluations (e.g., FEES, videofluoroscopy) in order to diagnose impairments such as language disorders, articulation defects, voice disorders, stuttering, aphasia, etc. Prepares written evaluations and completes medical documentation. Provides patient and family counseling; advises physicians and clinical staff of results; discusses speech/language therapies. Contacts external agencies regarding test results/case management.
-Provides speech, language, voice and dysphagia treatment for patients who would potentially benefit. Prepares written treatment plans, reports, progress notes, discharge summaries and other medical documentation at appropriate intervals. Provides patient/family counseling; advises physicians and clinical staff of progress; maintains contacts with external agencies.
-Participates in medical and professional conferences to discuss test results, case analysis and follow-up to treatments. Participates in institutional or external in-service programs for purposes of continuing clinical education. Provides teaching or training, as required, of clinicians, medical residents, students and externs. Participates in quality assurance programs for service.
-Performs other duties pursuant to clinical responsibility, such as arranging follow-up for patients. Performs related duties as required professionally, or required by Regional Director of Hearing and Speech, physicians, Director of Service.
