PER DIEM SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Job Description:

Under administrative supervision of the Regional Director of Hearing and Speech service and direct professional supervision of the Assistant Chief Speech Pathologist, performs assessment and treatment for feeding disorders in the neonatal and pediatric population on an as needed basis. Communicates recommendations with nursing staff and referring physicians. Counsels patients and families as to test results. Completes all appropriate medical documentation. Participates in training or in-service education programs.

Job Qualifications:

-Job requires completion of NYS-approved program for training of speech/language pathologists to acquire knowledge of assessment and treatment of communication disorders involving language, fluency, voice and articulation; use of equipment; and counseling, ordinarily acquired via Masters Degree.

-Certification of Clinical Competence and New York State licensure as Speech/Language Pathologist mandatory.

-A minimum of 2 years of previous experience in the NICU setting required. Previous experience with conducting of Pediatric instrumental exams is preferred.

-Interacts with various internal hospital medical, administrative and professional staff in the course of routine clinical duties. High degree of responsibility required for daily contacts with patients and their families.

-Some manual dexterity required for manipulation of testing or treatment materials and equipment.
