GENERAL SUMMARY: A laboratory technologist must be able to perform basic, routine and advanced diagnostic procedures, including molecular techniques, for the isolation, identification and susceptibility testing of microorganisms obtained from clinical specimens. A technologist must also be capable of performing serologic analysis on clinical specimens. All testing should be accomplished with minimal supervision.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Culture, identify and perform susceptibility testing, as appropriate, on microorganisms isolated from clinical specimens. Perform serologic testing using manual and automated methods. Perform analysis on clinical specimens using molecular technologies. Perform and record the results of quality control testing. Interpret and report results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Provide supervision to Laboratory Technicians. Train other Technologists as appropriate. Instruct medical students, residents and fellows in the areas of assignment. Perform other tasks as directed by a Supervisor or by the Director.
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited College or University in medical technology or related field
