Reviews outpatient charts thoroughly to ascertain all diagnoses/procedures.
Assigns and codes all ICD-9CM diagnoses, as well as applicable CPT procedure codes.
Data enters coded data of the above into the computerized system.
Maintains accurate log of date that records are received, coded and entered in computer system.
Abstracts additional information including:
External Cause of Injury Codes.
Transfer Out Facility Codes
Others (as defined by supervisor)
Performs concurrent ICD-9-CM coding and DRG calculation of in-house patients, when requested.
Utilizes computerized coding/abstracting equipment.
Ensures data quality and optimum reimbursement allowable under the federal and state payment systems.
Acts a resource person to hospital staff in coding and may provide education regarding coding changes/issues.
Responsible for maintaining regulatory requirements for licensure.
Maintains hospital and departmental requirements, policies and standards on confidentiality.
3pm - 11pm - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Thorough knowledge of Medical Terminology, ICD-9-CM and CRT coding,as well as DRG logic.
Thorough knowledge of current coding guidelines
CCA, CPC, CCS Certification
High School Diploma
Medical Records Experience or Related Background
