Job Description:

The Assistant Director is responsible for oversight of the daily operations of the Health Information Management Department. This includes providing direct supervision to the coding staff. Work in conjunction with Director in the development of coding in-service and institutional coding policies to ensure that coding policies complement the official coding rules and guidelines. Performs quality reviews on medical records to validate the codes, DRG appropriateness, missed secondary diagnoses and procedures. Work closely with Clinical Reimbursement Manager, CDI staff, Finance, Managers, Physicians and outside resources regarding health information management issues. Provide coding staff with feedback to assure coding uniformity, consistency and accuracy. Monitor appropriates of physician queries with the goal to improve physician documentation through education. Ensures compliance with applicable regulations pertaining to medical record documentation requirements. Fosters open communication and shares plans with employees as well as making Director aware of employee issues and concerns.

Job Qualifications:

Education and Skills
A.A. S. in Health Information Technology, B.S. Health Information Management or equivalent degree in related healthcare field required
Expert working knowledge of HIPPA, PHI and all laws relative to access and release of medical records/PHI (protected health information system)
RHIA, RHIT, CCS preferred
Minimum 3 years' experience in Health information Management, acute care academic hospital setting required

Proficiency in Word and Excel.
