Job Description:

General Summary
This role is responsible for managing the daily clinical operations, administrative functions, and financial activities of the clinic or unit. Collaborates with physicians, management, and other clinical leaders and staff to promote efficient, high quality care delivery that assures patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and provider efficiency. This role is expected to provide patient care, regular health assessments, diagnosis, and management of common acute and chronic stable conditions. Provides nursing services within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act, Article 139 of the New York State Education Act.

Essential Responsibilities

Nurse Manager Role
1.Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, and rewards.
2.Manages/supervises and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance, and resources. Directs in-service and continuing education activities for staff. Monitors staff safety compliance and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as needed.
3.Evaluates staff performance regularly and determines merit increases, promotions and disciplinary actions.
4.Responsible for managing the revenues and expenses. Collaborates with Medical Director in developing annual capital and operating budgets.
5.Develops and evaluates a staffing plan assuring sufficient and appropriate resources are available. Identifies opportunities for alternative staffing, sharing resources, and staffing to demand.
6.Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, analyzing appropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities in collaboration with Medical Staff, DON, Nursing Leadership, and staff for improving services and patient outcomes. Implements and evaluates a practice improvement and quality assurance plan.
7.Acts as a consultant to nursing staff, medical staff, and other support services in identification of and implementation related to specified patient problems or needs.
8.Performs competencies (including age-specific competencies) as identified through the departmental competency program.
9.Acts as a consultant and presents clinically current educational programs to requesting community groups, organizations, or individuals.
10.Contributes to the education of others by performing any 2 of the following: (a) assists in the development and/or updating of approved teaching materials; (b) participates in the presentation of educational programs for staff, assuming a leadership role; (c) precepts undergraduate/graduate students or visiting professionals as requested.
11.Leads the development, data collection and analysis of team-based quality improvement projects, utilizing results to improve patient care.
12.Supports research projects that will contribute to patient care standards, staff development and the mission of the institution.
13.Active contributor to the setting and achievement of departmental goals and objectives based upon a needs assessment and or changes in clinical practice.
14.Represents unit and/or the Department of Nursing on appropriate committees and interacts with community, regional, and national organizations related to nursing and specialty practice.
15.Performs all other duties as assigned

Nurse Practitioner Role
1.Diagnose and manage acute episodic and chronic illness with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention.
2.Orders, conducts, and interprets diagnostic and laboratory tests.
3.Prescribes pharmacologic agents and treatments and non-pharmacologic (i.e. CPAP and oxygen) therapies.
4.Teaches and counsels individuals, families and groups.
5.Holds both scheduled and un-scheduled clinics depending on weekly need. Patient visits will consist of routine follow up appointments, hospitalization/ER follow ups, smoking cessation, patient counseling on disease management, oxygen/CPAP compliance, and sick visits.

Job Qualifications:

Must have completed a degree/diploma program registered by the New York State Education Department as qualifying for certification, or a program determined by the department to be equivalent to a registered program, which is designed and conducted to prepare graduate to practice as a nurse practitioner. Current certification by either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as either an adult or family nurse practitioner.

Certification and Licensure
Current New York RN license required, APN license required. Healthcare provider level CPR/BLS required every 2 years. Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C) preferred.

Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of recent and related experience as a nurse practitioner required.
