The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a highly organized, creative and skilled Senior Course Developer of Distance Learning Initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Instructional Technology within Academic IT and working within a matrix relationship with the Program Administrator of the Master of Science in Health Care Delivery program, this role will act as the production lead, develop new processes and leverage existing systems in the launching of the first online curriculum for the School. The ideal candidate for this position will have an exceptional track record of planning, managing, and building credit-based online educational initiatives for the distance learner audience.
Work closely with faculty partners and program administration to coordinate and track the progress of course content development with the overall goal of ensuring delivery obligations are met
Participate as a member of the distance learning workgroup to establish the LMS platform that will support the School's distance learning offerings (with the first being the Master of Science in Health Care Delivery)
Promote effective communication across a diverse group of faculty and staff; articulate project plans and goals clearly in spoken and written form
Work closely with Marketing and Leadership in developing public-facing communication
Provide tier two technical support and develop tier one helpdesk processes that support exemplary "follow-the-sun" student and constituent suppor
Provide creative guidance in developing course materials and ensuring usability and UX
Review course content for potential intellectual property issues
Manage quality assurance, with strong emphasis on copy editing and proofreading.
Track course and individual faculty surveys, maintain statistics and produce weekly project status summaries
Work with program administration and the Dean's office in the assessment of overall effectiveness of online course materials produced
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience in online course development, academic project management, educational media production or related fields; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Additional Education and Experience
Preferred: Master's degree or higher with professional experience with Higher Education
Demonstrated completion of at least one credit-based online course
Demonstrated completion of at least one non-credit MOOC
Extensive experience in developing content and courseware for adult learners
Experience working with web authoring tools and web-based CMS/LMS (e.g., Articulate, Blackboard, Drupal, etc.)
Experience with video production techniques and technologie
Excellent command of MS Office Suite, especially Word and Excel
Skills & Abilities
Self-motivated and able to excel in a fast-paced academic environment
Capacity to develop new, relevant technology skills as neede
Ability to research various subjects using traditional library techniques and the web
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills, especially the ability to write effectively for electronic publication
Exemplary interpersonal skills, with ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team, including the ability to work with people from all levels of the organizatio
Proven analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Ability to multi-task, keeping priorities aligned
Experience with ITIL methodologies preferred
