The Senior Clinical Data Manager will provide leadership and comprehensive data management expertise in the development and maintenance of patient encounter-based databases and longitudinal observational disease registries in support of clinical, quality, regulatory and research goals. The Senior Clinical Data Manager is responsible for development of data management SOPs, standard working practices, and other data management related documents as applied to clinical programs. The Senior Clinical Data Manager performs quality assurance diagnostics using SAS-SQL programming on the completeness, reliability, validity and robustness of clinical data. This position develops, monitors, and manages data quality metrics internally at Mount Sinai and is responsible for meeting data quality standards for external data submissions, file extracts, and public reporting.
The Senior Clinical Data Manager works closely with the IT department for ensuring data collection and data interfacing is consistent with electronic health record capture, HL7 interfaces, and data warehousing. This position works closely with data analytics teams for development of business intelligence scorecards and dashboards that fit on top of data registries and clinical data sets. The Senior Clinical Data Manager is a trusted advisor and knowledge base for providing data dictionary and methodological expertise/support in health outcomes research, development of risk models, and statistical analysis of registry databases in order to ensure the best possible value proposition throughout the data life cycle.
Responsibilities include timely and professional ongoing data management of clinical disease registries and clinical programs by identifying and resolving data errors and inconsistencies in verification and validation studies to ensure consistently high standard data.
Oversee data management best practices in data validation engagement to ensure clinical data are processed according to data standards and data management standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Utilize SQL and SAS programming to generate data tabulations, data histogram profiles, and data validity checks to ensure-enforce completeness, validity, reliability of data sets.
Assume responsibilities for data transfers and external data harvests, including documentation and correspondence with external vendors.
Work with Medical Directors and clinical care teams in developing and designing weekly data quality control processes around unit-based clinical case reviews and M&M conferences.
Provide guidance, mentoring, training and feedback for members of the clinical departments in data collection and dataset production processes.
Produce and manage data definition documents (DDDs) and e-CRF data dictionaries.
Collaborate with IT department and data management peers to coordinate and develop operational type reports to assist with data exploration and master data management (MDM) metrics.
Work with data analysts and statisticians to design, develop, and deliver usable and understandable data presentations through BI tools and data visualization software.
Create ad-hoc queries and reports and case review reports for clinical data sets using SAS, SQL and/or ad-hoc reporting tools.
Performs other duties as required.
Bachelor's (required) or Master's (preferred) in Statistics, Public Health, Mathematics, Economics, Computer or Systems Engineering or related field that further developed your expertise in the business of health and healthcare.
Five (+) years of professional experience in clinical data management best practices, managing, cleaning and integrating large, complex databases (specifically SQL databases: SQL queries, and SAS: Proc SQL, Macros), and in health information systems and informatics standards (eg. CDASH, CDISC, ICD-9, and HL7). Prefer ten (+) years with clinical data management in clinical disease registries, population health, or in the medical device or pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
CDISC/CDASH training and certification
Certified Clinical Data Manager (CCDM)
Six Sigma certification a plus
Epic Clarity certification a plus
Significant experience with clinical disease registries, patient disease-based databases, electronic data capture forms, and other patient cohort database systems.
Experience with the development of reports using SAS, SQL and/or ad-hoc reporting tools.
Experience with MDM workflow tools
High level of analytical ability is required
Excellent communication skills required.
