Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

At Mount Sinai, we offer patients musculoskeletal ultrasound to diagnose orthopedic (bone) and rheumatologic (joint, muscle, and tendon) conditions by using a small probe, covered with gel, to translate sound waves to from your soft tissue and bone, and create real-time, active images that be seen on a ultrasound machine.

The result of this exam is an in-depth view of tendons, muscles, nerves, vessels, and bones. By using musculoskeletal ultrasounds, our providers can perform dynamic imaging by asking you to reproduce the exact movements that are causing you pain, so that we can assess exactly why your body is reacting the way it is. This noninvasive procedure facilitates highly accurate diagnoses and is performed in our offices so you’ll be able to go home immediately after your test.

Since inflammation can lead to pain and limited mobility and range of motion, it’s important to also consider what conditions may be causing your pain. Whether due to arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, dislocations, or muscle tears, our goal is to diagnose the problem, reduce pain, restore function, and get you back to your active life as soon as possible.
