Elisa Port, MD, chief of breast surgery and co-director of the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai Hospital, said patients find it hard to believe that their cancer is not spreading by the minute, the hour or the day.  This is not how cancer works, Dr. Port writes in her recent book, The New Generation Breast Cancer Book. “Make decisions in a place of power, not desperation,” she writes. She says a patient’s first step should be formulating a plan.  “Choose your surgeon, find a top medical center; get a second opinion and build a support network.”
