Phillips School of Nursing Receives National Accreditation for Baccalaureate Degree Program

  • New York, NY
  • (November 15, 2016)

The Phillips School of Nursing (PSON) at Mount Sinai Beth Israel announced today that its registered nurse (RN) to bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) program has been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for a period of five years, through December 31, 2021. CCNE is a national accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to identify and assess the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing.

With the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting the need for more than 580,000 new and replacement registered nurses by the year 2018, PSON’s RN to BSN program addresses the needs of nurses who wish to pursue advanced study in specialty clinical settings such as critical care/emergency department and perioperative care. These specialties are in high demand and require education beyond what is taught in associate degree programs. The program offers an innovative, personalized approach that builds on previous learning experiences and transitions individuals with undergraduate degrees in other disciplines into nursing. PSON is currently accepting applications for the spring 2017 semester.

About Phillip School of Nursing at Mount Sinai Beth Israel

Founded in 1904, PSON is dedicated to the professional education of undergraduate nursing.  As part of Mount Sinai Beth Israel, students benefit from an impressive array of clinical experiences, in the hospital and in the community, throughout the Mount Sinai Health System.  In addition to the RN to BSN, the school offers an Accelerated BSN and a fast track Associate’s in Applied Science in Nursing degree.  The school has designed a variety of innovative curriculums responding to the special needs of working adults interested in entering the nursing profession, nurses interested in advancing their career, and foreign educated physicians and nurses who wish to pursue nursing practice in the United States.  In 2014, the National League of Nursing designated the school a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education in the category of Student Learning and Professional Development. Located in the Chelsea section of Manhattan, convenient to public transportation, the school currently enrolls close to 300 students.  In addition to CCNE, the School is accredited in nursing for its baccalaureate program by the New York State Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Education and for its AAS program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and New York State Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Education.
