"Daughter Gives Dad The Gift Of Life"
Steven Frey says he is lucky to be alive. The 59-year-old has suffered from Crohn's disease for years. He was told by doctors last year that his liver was failing and he needed a transplant. Due to his rare blood type, secondary illness and the fact he was lower on the transplant list, Frey was faced with the possibility that he might not get a liver from a deceased donor in time - leaving his only option to get a live donor. His daughter Marielle, 29, turned out to be a perfect match. Sander Florman, MD, director of the Recanti and Miller Transplant Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital and Marcelo Facciuto, MD, professor of surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai performed the surgeries.
