New York Times - "Letters: HPV Vaccines for Boys"
"Re 'A Push for HPV Vaccinations' (March 26): Sabrina Tavernise underscores the critical need to increase HPV vaccination rates among girls. But what about boys? More than 70 percent of throat and oral cancers in the United States are caused by HPV, and in 2010 the rate of HPV-related throat cancers surpassed the prevalence of cervical cancer in women. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends HPV vaccines for boys ages 11 and 12, as well. By 2020, HPV-positive oral cancers among men could rise by nearly 30 percent. It is our moral imperative to avoid a future cancer crisis by requiring HPV vaccines for boys and girls," writes Dr. Eric Genden of Mount Sinai. Learn more
