"When Should You Visit An Urgent Care Center?" - Sheila Dougherty

Metro talked to Erick Eiting, MD, director of emergency medicine, Mount Sinai Downtown, to find out about the increasingly popular step between the doctor’s office and the ER — an urgent care center. Urgent care centers usually take most patients, though there are some that cannot accommodate young children or elderly patients with complicated medical conditions.  There are also urgent care centers that address specific conditions, such as orthopedics, sports medicine or ophthalmology. Mount Sinai is working hard to address all of the needs of the many patients, which includes expanding primary care services and making sure Mount Sinai doctors are able to get patients into their offices in a timely manner. Urgent care centers are part of this plan, so expect to see more Mount Sinai Urgent Care Centers in the future.
