"Upper East Side Teen Shakes Off Injury To Compete In Israeli Tennis Tournament" - Shaye Weaver
Teen tennis player, Robbie Werdiger, is one of the 12 American teens picked to play in the World Maccabiah Games in Israel next month, despite breaking his hip in April. Werdiger is still recovering from breaking part of his femur during a match. When he lunged for the ball, his hip popped. His doctor, Abigail Allen, MD, assistant professor of orthopaedics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai said the femur’s flexor muscle to the hop broke off due to overuse. “In general, the paradigm has shifted since I was a child. A lot of kids like Robbie are 'tennis, tennis, tennis,' and they don’t switch to something else, so the body does the same things over and over again," Dr. Allen explained. "That takes a huge part in the overall growth and development. He will recover fine."
