Many golfers, at every level of play, experience low back pain. Professional golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, and Tiger Woods have notably been sidelined from playing due to their history of back problems. Andrew Hecht, MD, associate professor of orthopaedics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai said he has treated a 14 year old golfer with a stress fracture and a 16 year old golfer with a lumbar disc herniation. Having good bio-mechanics during your swing is part of preventing low back pain from golf, but not the only thing to consider. With a proper warm up and practice swings both ways every other hole, back pain can be alleviated and injuries prevented.
