Michael Bruno

Senior Vice President, Financial Operations and Reporting

Michael Bruno is the Senior Vice President of Finance for the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City, which has a $2.5 billion operating budget. His responsibilities include overseeing financial transactional functions including general accounting, financial reporting, grants accounting, faculty practice accounting, accounts payable, payroll, third party reimbursement, capital financing, and treasury functions. As such, he prepares financial statements, coordinates annual CPA audits, and implements the Oracle ERP system for three hospitals. In addition to overseeing revenue enhancement initiatives, handling cash flow forecasting and management, and managing vendor relations, he has developed a formal Financial Assistance/Charity Care Policy, redesigned the capital budget and reporting processes, redesigned the accounts payable process to incorporate invoice imaging and workflow enhancements, and analyzed and modified the retirement benefit programs. He attends Finance Committee and Board meetings and serves as a Board Member on two captive insurance companies providing medical malpractice coverage for two hospitals.

Before coming to Mount Sinai, Michael held a variety of high-level positions in health care organizations including Chief Financial Officer at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center; Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at St. Barnabas Hospital, both in the Bronx; Vice President of Finance for Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York; and Senior Vice President of Finance for the Presbyterian Hospital in the City of New York.

Before he became involved with hospital management, Michael worked in high-level positions in the financial services industry. He was Senior Manager at KPMG Peat Marwick and Partner, New York Region Healthcare Management Consulting at Ernst and Young. Michael holds a BS in Accounting from the State University of New York at Binghamton and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York.
