Survey of Shared Research Facilities

Take the Survey of Shared Research Facilities (SRF) for the Academic Year 2006.

Overview

SRF bring state-of-the-art instrumentation and methodologies crucial to modern biomedical research cores within the reach of all MSSM investigators and graduate students. The facilities are staffed by experts who not only provide research services, they also are sources of instruction and training and, as such, constitute a major educational resource for those wishing to diversify or explore new avenues of research. SRF are administered through the Office of the Dean and partially subsidized by institutional funds. Establishment of new SRF should be initiated by a proposal involving users from multiple departments/disciplines for review by the Dean’s Office.

The relentless and fast-paced evolution of biomedical technologies requires that the School continuously monitor the effectiveness and usage of each shared research facility so that it can modernize, restructure, or in some cases, eliminate them. We welcome your comments and experiences so that the facilities can respond to your needs and enhance your research ideas and pursuits. Please submit your comments, suggestions, and appraisals to the administrator of Shared Research Facilities, see contact information on right. With your assistance, we will continue to refine the array of services offered by Shared Research Facilities so that the latest techniques and methodologies are available to all MSSM investigators.

General Guidelines

  • SRF are open to all faculty, with equal access regardless of departmental or center affiliation; priority is given to MSSM faculty over external users
  • Services from SRF require authorization from a Principal Investigator
  • All utilization of SRF are subject to charge
  • Users are invoiced and billed by fund numbers on a monthly basis
  • Billing is initiated when service is requested
  • Users who cancel appointments less than 24 hours in advance are subject to full charge
  • Questions regarding monthly billing should be directed to SRF Directors
  • SRF are not responsible for the application of their products or outcome of research studies involving their products
  • Each SRF has an advisory committee that meets semi-annually with the SRF director

Authorization forms/sign-up sheets are available to users online and should be faxed to the appropriate facility director.
